Synopsis Quest

Like classic Japanese role-playing games but just don’t have the time to actually play them these days? Synopsis Quest could be right up your alley. 25 micro-quests of lovingly recreated 8-bit glory await you, each lasting little more than a few seconds. Watch out, though – all those RPG clichĂ©s and conventions you thought you knew and understood? They won’t help you here.

Small Worlds

SmallWorlds

Well, it’s been a while, I admit! But I have been sort of busy. Sort of. I’ll be at the EG Expo on Tuesday so hopefully I’ll have some interesting stuff to post after that. Until then, busy yourself with this wonderful little Flash game.

Small Worlds is an entry in the Casual Gameplay Design Competition and is very simple in concept but quite tricky to describe. Guide your platform-hopping pixel man through an expanding world and try to find the exit to the next one. I won’t try to explain it any more, just give it a whirl – it’s quite unique and totally relaxing to play.

Canabalt

Canabalt

First day back from my combined holiday/illness-fest and this is just what I need to relax – Canabalt, an excellent one-button flash game. Your guy runs from left to right and you help him to avoid a number of environmental hazards/disasters with a single poke of the X or C key. Sounds simple, but it’s furiously addictive and very polished to boot. Thanks to Dan for pointing me at this one!

The Space Game

The Space Game

Been quiet around here lately, hasn’t it? There’s actually very good reason for that – I’ve been swotting up for my first exam in nearly 15 years and haven’t had much spare time aside from the odd forum post here and there. But… that’s all over now. Revision finished, exam done, exam passed (whoo!), game… back on!

In the ten minutes I’ve had spare to play games with the kids, we’ve been playing The Space Game – a sort of cross between a resource-management RTS and a tower defence game. And rather addictive to boot! It’s a bit old, so if you’ve already played it you might like the newly-released mission pack instead. We haven’t gotten to those yet so don’t blame me if they’re rubbish. 🙂

Anyway, normal service should now be resumed. In theory.

Little Wheel

Little Wheel

We’ve not had one of these for a while, so here’s an absolutely beautiful little point n’ clicker to kill ten minutes over lunch. Help a little robot guy to reactivate his entire race after an accident leaves them all without juice. It’s not very long and it’s not very hard (matron!), but good gravy is it gorgeous!

Crush The Castle

Crush The Castle

Apologies for not doing any writing of late – ‘work’, of all things, has been taking up a great deal of my time recently. I still have time for a smashing Flash game, though – and ‘Crush The Castle‘ is a corker. Use your handy trebuchet to demolish a series of flimsily-built castles filled with Pythonesque people. Stupidly addictive!

Will write something soon. Honest, guv!

Pandemic 2

Pandemic 2

This is a surprisingly addictive little aside. Pandemic 2 allows you to create a nasty infection of your own design with the ultimate goal being to wipe out the entire population of the planet. Start off keeping a low-profile so as to infect as many people as possible without raising attention, then mutate into something particularly lethal in order to kill everyone off before the scientists can discover a cure.

Bad taste? Almost certainly. Do we care? Not a jot. 🙂
